The United Kingdom is made of the four nations of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland with England, Scotland and Wales sharing a land border with each other, to reach Northern Ireland you will need to cross the Irish Sea either by ferry or by air. Each country has its own capital and legislature. England’s capital is London and does not have a legislature and is governed by the UK Parliament. Scotland’s capital is Edinburgh and its legislature are known as the Scottish Parliament; Wales’s capital is Cardiff with its legislature is known as the Senedd (the Welsh word for Parliament); Northern Ireland’s capital is Belfast and its legislature is known as the Northern Ireland Assembly.

The population of United Kingdom is approx. 66.7 million people and covers an area of 243,610 km² (94,058 mi²) and a total coastline of 12,429 km (7,723.0 mi). The official language is English although in some areas of Scotland and Wales they speak Gaelic as well as English (Northern Ireland are also looking at teaching (Irish) Gaelic in schools). The official religion of the UK is Church of England which is Protestant although Catholicism is also a large religion. The GB pound (£) is the currency of the UK.
